Cape Azure, located in the coastal village of Rooi Els - an hour’s drive from Cape Town- offers cottage style accommodation for two to five persons seeking a relaxing escape to the peace and beauty of a nature reserve .

Nestled in the small village of Rooi Els with Klein Hangklip mountain as a dramatic backdrop, Cape Azure is a two bedroom cottage set in a Cape floral indigenous garden with superb upstairs views of the azure waters across False Bay. An ideal romantic hide-away or a nature experience for the family, Cape Azure offers a very special stay for those who are ‘wild’ at heart. Walking distance to the local village shop as well as the two village bar/restaurants.

From the coastal town of Gordon’s Bay take the picturesque coastal route known as Clarence Drive, reputed as the finest marine drive in the world. A mere hour drive from Cape Town, Rooi Els is the first quaint seaside village to be explored along the stretch of coastline route to Hermanus.

The village of Rooi Els lies at the gateway to the Overberg Region and makes a fantastic start (or end) to the Garden Route or Route 62 tour. The village is located in a nature reserve which forms part of the Kogelberg Biosphere Reserve – the heart of the ‘fynbos’ kingdom and is the home of approximately 1600 species. It is a haven for a myriad of coastal, fynbos and mountain birds. The Reserve is the first and only Biosphere in South Africa to be proclaimed by United Nations’ Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO). Adding to the charm of the village Rooi Els has its own troop of Chacma baboons which move between Betty’s Bay in search for food.

Take a stroll along the coastal pathways, on the beach, in the village and in the Rooi Els nature reserve. Take a rest in the sun on the white soft sand beach and view the locals launching their small fishing boats. Snorkel in the rock pools and crevices along the beach. Catch a glimpse of The Cape Clawless otter swhich occasionally comes ashore to drink and wash their fur. For those who have obtained the necessary permits, enjoy the fruits of the sea by picking black muscles from the rocks or dive for rock lobster, alikreukel, octopus, sea urchin and oysters. Or, simply relax on Cape Azure’s terrace and enjoy the sighting of The Southern Right whales frolicking in the sea. (June to December), view the nectar eating birds and a visit from a family of Cape Francolin. In the evenings admire the magnificent African sunset and as darkness sets in, gasp at the myriad of stars that light up sky. The natural beauty of Rooi Els leaves an imprint in the hearts of many visitors.
